Mentor for the Moment
The KBA launched the Mentor for the Moment program to pair attorneys who have questions or problems in a particular area of legal expertise with the guidance of a more experienced Mentor attorney. Volunteer mentors serve to create a more cooperative and collegial Knoxville bar. They know the importance of getting advice from others who have experienced similar problems and frustrations in their law practice. Of course, the inquiring attorney ultimately exercises their own independent professional judgment on behalf of their clients, but the Mentor for the Moment offers quick telephone access to the counsel of attorneys who have experience with, and knowledge of particular dilemmas and areas of practice.

Professional Guidelines
The KBA first adopted its Guidelines for Professional Courtesy and Conduct in October 2002. These non-mandatory Guidelines, which are applicable in both litigation and non-litigation settings, embody the ideals of professional courtesy, conduct, and cooperation for members of the Knoxville Bar. In November 2018, the Board adopted revisions to the Guidelines after receiving recommendations from the KBA Professionalism Committee and input from members.

Succession Planning
The KBA created the Planning Ahead handbook to help members fulfill their ethical obligations to protect their clients' interests in the event of death, disability, impairment, or incapacity. Although it is hard to think about events that could render a lawyer unable to continue practicing law, freak accidents, unexpected illness, and untimely death do occur. Following the suggestions in this handbook will help to protect the clients' interests and will help to make the law practice a valuable asset to the attorney’s estate. In addition, it will simplify the closure of the law office - a step a lawyer’s family and colleagues will very much appreciate.
