12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET
The CLE Program "Strategies for Conducting a Family Law Mediation" will be presented as a Webinar presentation on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, from 12 - 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The program is approved for 1 hour of general "distance learning" CLE credit and 1 hour of general CME or Family CME credit. This program is sponsored by the ADR Section.
This CLE will offer a comprehensive overview of how to conduct a family law mediation. Our presenter, Cort Sikes, will cover how to set up your scheduling system, send your Mediation contract electronically, and set up your conference room and Zoom rooms. He will cover how to introduce yourself at mediation and the required Rule 31 topics. He will explain how to get an inventory of the issues and begin planting seeds for how a case can resolve the first time in each room. He will share his experience of how to deal with offers and counter-offers on property division, co-parenting, and alimony. He will explain how to efficiently draft settlement documents using available technology. Finally, he will explain how to get paid and submit your Rule 31 Report of Mediator.

1. You can join this meeting with almost any device. For mobile devices, find the Zoom Meetings on the App Store or Google Play Store and pre-install. For a desktop or laptop computer, the link to pre-install is: https://zoom.us/download. You can then leave the meeting and then re-join again at the appointed meeting time. Absent a computer or mobile device, you can just join with a telephone call (audio only), but the best meeting experience by far is to use a computer or iPad, so you can see others and what is being presented.
2. For computer/mobile device connection: If you don’t already have the Meetings app installed, you will be prompted to do a quick installation when you click the meeting link. Once installed, you don’t need to “sign in” or “create an account”, you just need to join the meeting. Only the host of a meeting has to have an account. Once you join with your computer, you will be asked if you want to use the computer audio or dial in by telephone for your audio. You can use computer audio if you have a headset or are on a mobile device or laptop with camera/mic – webcams are encouraged; otherwise, dial in via telephone for your audio, following the on-screen instructions.
3. If you encounter any technical difficulties at all during the meeting, and it is persistent, sometimes it is best just to leave the meeting and then rejoin it. If you encounter any difficulties or have questions as a result of the test above, just contact KBA Office well before the meeting so that we can resolve.
